On a long weekend in NYC…
In Brooklyn:
We stayed at the beautiful (and very hip) Box House Hotel in Brooklyn (Greenpoint). Near there, favorites included: Jungle Cafe (vegan, beet burger & hibiscus iced tea was wonderful), Sweetleaf coffee shop (try the ‘rocketfuel’ cold brew w chicory and maple and all of the baked goods get five stars) and Modern Love (vegan dinner- try the roasted squash w cinnamon maple syrup glazed pecans, rose petals & dried sage). Take a ferry ride to the Brooklyn bridge then on your way back check out the rooftop bar at the William Vale hotel.
In Manhattan:
My tourist favorites:
NY Public Library, Central Park, the Met museum and the Staten Island Ferry at night (free, 24 hrs, see Statue of Liberty) – all tried and true tourist favorites which I’ll revisit again and again..
Also:
High Line walk (start from one end at 10&30 then walk to the other- it’s about a mile) stop at the Chelsea market (look/shop at pop-ups, grab a snack)
On the other end: the Whitney Museum of American Art is amazing. Start by grabbing a glass of rose on the balcony! Hungry after the museum? Try By Chloe (vegan American- loved the black bean burger & sweet potato fries) 20 min/1 mi walk.
We had a very good meal at Franehia (vegan Korean) between Penn & Grand Central. Blossom has many locations and is a very yummy and hip dinner spot. We also brunched at The Butcher’s Daughter (veg, very organic ‘So-Cal’ feel) .
Visiting the 9/11 memorial and the Oculus station next-door was moving.
Some things we ran out of time for:
Kimpton ink48 rooftop bar, Cantina rooftop, Catch. I’ll be back for these!
I ♥️ NY
I would like to say thank you to my dear friend Christie Bailey for being a tour guide/navigator for much of this trip. This was a wonderful weekend of wandering, art and eating (plus a little bit of shopping)- all of my favorite things! Xoxo
